HRT hormones are the same molecular structure as the hormones your body produces. Unlike synthetic hormones, they are considered natural to the body because they are structurally identical. Our doctors may develop a customized program of hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, and/or testosterone, depending on your hormone levels, symptoms, medical history, family history, and which hormones your body needs.
No matter a woman's age, if her hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) are unbalanced, she may suffer from side effects such as hot flashes, night sweats, depression, vaginal dryness, fatigue, and weight gain. HRT may help improve these symptoms.
As a man gets older, his testosterone declines. Testosterone is the hormone that may support mental focus, energy, metabolism, sex drive and muscle tone, while preventing weight gain. Testosterone should only be used under medical supervision.
The goal with hormone replacement therapy is to work with the lowest dose needed. Side effects occur mainly when the dosage of hormones is too high for the individual. The doctor will monitor and evaluate each patient consistently to assure a balanced dosage and monitor for side effects.
We believe that most people should have their hormones evaluated at the age of 40 or earlier if they have symptoms of hormonal loss. The way to prevent illness and optimize health is to take an active role in addressing health risks before they become a serious problem.
No; however, if you decide to stop, your body will simply return to where it was before hormone therapy or where they naturally are at the current time. A long-term plan with our doctors may include other treatment options such as nutritional support and lifestyle changes. Each patient will have their individual needs and long-term plan developed specifically for them with their doctor.
During your appointment, your doctor will evaluate this on a case-by-case basis. It is possible that some medicines may need to be reduced, increased, or discontinued. Your doctor will address this with you during the review of your medical history, family history, medications, and supplements.
Yes. You may bring any previous lab work you have done in the past year to your initial appointment. However, you will need to do a complete female or male hormone panel. This comprehensive diagnostic panel will help your doctor to determine your exact baseline hormone levels. Then, your doctor will customize a wellness regimen that's tailored to meet your individual needs.
This depends on your health insurance. It's possible that some tests may be covered, but that will ultimately be determined by your insurance company. If you have any questions prior to setting up your office visit, please feel free to contact our office for more specific information on your individual health insurance plan and we'd be happy to give you more specific details about your coverage.
This will vary from patient-to-patient. However, most patients will notice some improvement in symptoms within 1-2 weeks. The full benefit is generally 6-8 weeks. However, the hormones may require changes along the way as your body and needs change. Lifestyle changes and improvements in nutrition and fitness may also take a few months for patients to feel and notice their full benefits. We're committed to helping you each step of the way.
